Stop Parallels 16 Crashing or automatically suspending
Parallels is a Virtual Machine tool for the Mac, for many years either VMWare or Parallels has been the first choice for users.
You can also use the FREE Virtual Box, VMWare has now made a FREE version of VMWare Player but only on Windows.
VMWare Fusion is available for Windows and is a very good alternative, keep an eye on this post as we will be posting a comparison.
Parallels were recently updated to version 16 in anticipation of the macOS Big Sur release. This sound great however their forums are full of issues, Parallels and VMWare are embracing both DirectX11 and Metal for the new versions.
Unfortunately, there is an issue and it is either limited to older machines or it could be more widespread. Parallels are having performance issues or some machines are outright crashing. The issue I experienced is constant suspend mode, I was getting a graphical error:
“A critical graphics error has occurred with Windows 10 Pro”.
The application that caused the crash will be terminated. Please send this report to help us solve the problem.”
Parallels have not yet updated their software or provided a workaround, however as we are talking about graphics, I wondered could it be related to the chipset.
